In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
I’m a functional person. I have no problem with the “if you haven’t used it in 6 months, you don’t need it” rule. I don’t talk a lot: if there isn’t a reason to say it, please let me enjoy the silence. My home is sparsly decorated: I’d rather spend time with my children than “foofing” my house.
Then, I started writing seriously. Being the functional person that I am, my first three attempts were in non-fiction: good how-to books. They didn’t make it past the first round of editing.
Then, I had a dream. Not like MLK, but a real nighttime dream that stuck with me after I woke up. I scribbled it into a notebook, expanded on it, rewrote it, expanded, deleted, rewrote (you get the idea). I’m receiving encouraging comments in my writer’s group and am hopeful to begin working toward publication within the year.
But first, I had to overcome an obstacle – the voice in my own head. Why should I waste my time on an adventure novel? What functional purpose does it serve. Then the Holy Spirit directed me to Genesis 1:1.
God’s first act recorded in scripture was Creation. When I work on my novel, I am sharing in the character of God. Wow!
However, when I organize and clean, I am also reflecting His image. God’s character is so vast that it takes each person to help reveal Him to mankind: the stern boss, the hardworking mother, the spontaneous girl, the complex boy with Downs syndrome. . . They all show qualities of God. (Granted, we each have a sin-nature, too, but that’s a topic for another day.)
What qualities of God does your husband reflect?
My Turn:
My husband is faithful: to me, to his job, to his church. Whatever he has committed to, he will complete, no matter how hard, no matter what the cost.
Prayer
Creator of All Things, let me see You in my husband. Show me where he reflects Your image and cause me to fall so totally in love with him that I cannot see any part of his character that does not reflect you.
